History of Slot Machines

San Francisco resident Charles Fey invented the very first slot machine in 1898. It was the Liberty Belle and to win, the player had to get three matching symbols.

The slot machine was a smash hit and the game's popularity has been on the rise ever since.

Unfortunately for Fey, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake destroyed all the slot machine factories and he had to rebuild from scratch.
By this time technology had improved so no longer were the slot machines the massive cast iron behemoths they were originally.
The Prohibition era saw the slot machines outlawed and it wasn't until Bugsy Siegel built the first casino in Las Vegas in the 1940s that they were used again. The slot machines were to be placed in the casino mainly for the pleasure of wives and partners while the big boys did some serious gambling.

In the 1960's technology meant the slot machines became electronic. The computer age followed and now the machines are very sophisticated computers. High quality graphics and interface plus options galore make them a sound and light extravaganza for players.

Slot Machines are now themed and cover every period of history as well as every well known movie and television series. For all the talk about poker, blackjack and roulette. The real cash cow for the casinos are the slot machines. They bring in 60 of casino revenue which equates to $6 Billion dollars a year.
